IMCI, the International Marine and Certification Institute, has granted Efectis Nederland accreditation for performing fire tests on fuel system components for ‘small craft’ (boats), in accordance with clause 4.2.2 of ISO 10088, and for performing fire tests on fuel tanks for small craft, in accordance with clause 7.4 of ISO 21487. The first fire tests on fuel system components (see photograph) were performed successfully last December under the supervision of IMCI.

In the tests described in these standards the components are subjected to a heptane pool fire for a duration of 2.5 minutes. Before the test the components are filled partially with heptane. Tests are successful if the components show no leakage of heptane during the tests.

The fire testing market for small craft is new to Efectis and is something we are very excited about. A good start has been made with these tests, which are a worthwhile addition to the already very large product portfolio of Efectis.
