Multiple fire resistance tests for our esteemed customer ALUSYSTEMS (Aluminium Construction Systems Factory Co. Ltd) have been successfully carried out at our facility according to HRR (Heat Release Rate; simulated effect on a train enclosure derived from a cellulosic fire incident in a train), ISO 834-1 and RFC (Reference Fire Curve; a bin fire incident simulation occurred at platform area) relying on the CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) study prepared specifically for the Project.
These tests simulated a fire scenario in Riyadh Metro, 3E2 Qasr Al Hokm Downtown Underground Transfer Station between Line 3 (Orange Line) and Line 1 (Blue Line). The purpose of these tests is to provide an assessment of the fire resistance performance of the glazed system together with its framing members and to make an assessment for the actual application of the system on site, supported by the results of the tested configuration.
Three different specimens installed in the concrete supporting structure were tested at Efectis Era Avrasya:
- Platform Enclosure: The system subjected to the fire test was difficult to adapt to the furnace because of its shape and the producibility of the glazing components; therefore, instead of a curved corner, an L-shaped system was designed as a representative sample of the system in practice. In a real life scenario, both sides of the vertical part of the system may be at risk in the event of fire, so both sides should be tested. Accordingly, the samples were designed to include one of the glazing members fixed back to front, in order to compare it with the exposure on the reverse side.
- PSD Train Enclosure (HRR Curve): The test sample consists of horizontally and vertically positioned steel and glazed panels placed on the steel framework of the load-bearing structure covering the train enclosure. This test evaluates the fire performance of the PSD train enclosure when exposed to the HRR fire curve.
- PSD Train Enclosure (ISO 834-1 Curve): The test sample consists of horizontally and vertically positioned steel and glazed panels placed on the steel framework of the load-bearing structure covering the train enclosure. This test evaluates the fire performance of the PSD train enclosure when exposed to the ISO 834-1 fire curve.
