Efectis Nederland has performed multiple hose stream tests in 2024. The purpose of the hose stream test is to see whether the fire seals allow water to pass through on the unexposed side of the test specimen. The fire seal must remain intact when the fire is extinguished in part of the test specimen for a certain time. The fire test and the hose stream test are carried out in our laboratory.

In accordance with the corresponding test standard, after a fire test the building element is exposed to a hose stream to assess the integrity of the element when exposed to fire. The hose stream follows a pattern moving from the left to the right side of the test specimen and from the top to the bottom; this is repeated continuously for as long as the test lasts. The hose stream is applied for a certain duration and with a certain pressure, according to the standard. The duration of the hose stream test depends on the duration of the fire test and the application area.

During the hose stream test, the unexposed surface of test specimen will be observed during the application of the hose stream for the development of any hole, crack or other penetration that allows the passage of water from the hose stream. Observations are also made for water projecting between the fire seal and the supporting construction and any fully developed stream, wetting of the unexposed surface, water rolling down the unexposed surface, or water projected beyond the unexposed surface.
