A new bicycle garage is being built right in front of Amsterdam Central Station. A unique feature of this project is that the entire all-concrete structure is located under water. After completion, canal tour boats will sail above the stored bicycles.

With 7,000 bicycles, this garage will be the largest bicycle garage in Amsterdam. The project is an integrated part of the renovation project ‘De Entree’, linking the dynamic metro network of Amsterdam and the train network of the Netherlands.

The connecting tunnel between the bicycle parking and the metro / train network has been designed as a fire barrier. This also serves as a flood barrier.

Efectis has been involved in the project since the very beginning.  Our is client is Max Bögl. The work is fully recorded in BIM. At this moment, we are working on the fire safety installations, fire and smoke walls, and access to the underground facilities for both public and security services.

When the construction is finished, the entrance to the Amsterdam city centre will be future proof.
