Mass barrier ceilings block sound completely between one floor and another. They consist of multiple layers of boarding fixed to anti-vibration hangers that are suspended from steel beams.

Mass barrier ceilings are commonly applied in construction projects where sound between floors must be minimised, such as cinemas, dance studios and leisure centres, and operate by dampening sound, dissipating energy throughout the system.

Mass barrier ceilings are tested to BS EN 13381-1 and BS EN 1363-1 and must comply with the following performance criteria:

UKAS

Efectis UK & Ireland gained UKAS accreditation for BS EN 13381-1 in 2023. If you wish to test your mass barrier systems, we can provide accredited tests so you can demonstrate your product’s suitability to the market.
